De Klimaattwijfelaar
Documentary process
From September 2021 until May 2022 I have been working on this documentary about sustainable living. It was not only a project for my audience, but a transformative process for myself as well. I researched what sustainable living meant for me, and it completely changed my view on the topic. I dare say I have become less judgemental towards people with different approaches to sustainability and grew more compassionate towards people who struggle to make their lives more sustainable. I learned to embrace the power of openness about struggling myself, and how this can be the perfect way to start an honest conversation.
The documentary is made for high school students. First of all, because they are the generation who will have to deal with climate change the most. And secondly because I believe it is important to inspire young people and in return listen to their ideas, fears and courage. With a background in education, working with young people, will always be important and inspiring to me.
Around the documentary I also created a lesson plan which can be used around my film in high school lessons. If you want to use this, please send me a message!
To give an insight in my research, the process and the making-off of my documentary, I created a research video halfway through the process that can be found on the right. In June 2022 the final documentation of my entire research process will be available on this page.
The Documentary premiered on 9th May 2022 with two guests (Bas van den Berg & Marije van Bommel) that interviewed me about my film and process, and many amazing questions from the audience. It was a very special night, that I will remember for a long time.
Below you can download my position paper (Bachelor thesis that provided the theoretical background of my research process) and find the Instagram page of the documentary to keep you up-to-date!
If you want to use the lesson plan and the assignments (both in Dutch) that I created around the documentary, you can download them here. If you do so, please let me know how it went! If the students are up for it, I would love to receive a picture of the lesson and the videos that they create as part of the assignment.
If you want to invite me as a guest speaker in the lesson, or to talk about documentary making in general you can always send me a message (E-mail/whatsapp) or call me.
